HUNTLY RETRAVISION FISHER AND PAYKEL MARATHON
23rd MAY 1999

ENGLISH RUNNER BREAKS FOR WORLD RECORD AT HUNTLY MARATHON

Tim Rogers achieved a unique record while running in yesterdays the Huntly Retravision Fisher and Paykel Marathon

Rogers, from Blackpool, England was undertaking a record-breaking challenge to compete in marathons on every continent across the globe, including some of the world's toughest and most unusual running events.

His attempt for a new world record for seven marathons on seven continents in seventy seven days was foiled by the storm which hit Rotorua earlier this month causing the Rotorua Marathon to be abandoned minutes before the start , because of flooding on the course.

Rogers however, was able to claim the world record of seven marathons on seven
continents in 99days, beating the previous record by 69days when he crossed the finish line the in the Huntly marathon on May 23.

After arriving in NZ on Saturday Rogers, had little rest after completing his marathon. He is due back in Blackpool on Tuesday for a meeting.Rogers is a senior manager from the Littlewoods Organisation.

Hamilton City Hawks hastily added a full marathon to their half marathon event to satisfy hundreds of runners who had spent months preparing for the Rotorua marathon.

The race itself was possibly a world record. It is doubtful that a marathon with as many starters has never been organised in a time frame of less than the three weeks it took to arrange the Huntly event.
